Sitting on a hill, surrounded by age-old olive groves, sits the peaceful village of Budrus, but looks can be deceptive. Only a few kilometres away is the Israeli border and work on Israels controversial security fence is about to begin. When completed, the fence will prevent farmers from tending their trees and isolate the village from its surroundings.

A local villager, Ayed, leads the campaign to stop the construction, convinced that a non-violent, non-partisan approach is the only way to succeed. His ideological rivals are convinced and join the face-off with the soldiers and construction workers. As months pass and word of their campaign spreads, Jewish and international protesters join them, but the soldiers become increasingly frustrated and violence threatens.
